SAN DIEGO, CA

San Diego, CA is one of our favorite cities! It is the perfect city for people that love the beach and love being outside. San Diego is filled with gorgeous beaches, awesome water sports, tons of breweries and wineries, lots of excellent restaurants and of course the famous San Diego Zoo! To top it off they have perfect weather year round. This hip, laid-back, outdoorsy town is beautiful and we can't wait to visit again! We are excited to share with you some of our favorite restaurants, bars, beaches and things to do in San Diego!

TOP BRUNCH SPOTS

-RUSTIC ROOT: Rustic Root was a hip, upbeat restaurant in the Gaslamp District that was the perfect brunch spot. They also have an amazing rooftop with excellent views of the Gaslamp District. It fills up quickly so be sure to make a reservation! Also, be sure to try their F'rose! It's delicious! 

-BREAKFAST REPUBLIC: Breakfast Republic is another great brunch spot. There are five locations in San Diego, so see which one is closest to you. They serve delicious classic breakfast dishes as well as innovative breakfast dishes such as Oreo pancakes and s'more french toast! 

-CRUSHED: Crushed is a great brunch spot near Pacific Beach with a nice outdoor patio. They serve creative brunch dishes and fun brunch drinks! 

TOP DINNER SPOTS

-KETTNER EXCHANGE: Kettner Exchange is a rustic, upbeat, two story restaurant in Little Italy with a beautiful rooftop bar! They are known for their creative hand-crafted cocktails and delicious American dishes. 

-JUNIPER & IVY: Juniper & Ivy is a modern, classy, restaurant in Little Italy with a welcoming atmosphere. They are known for their creative dishes and extensive wine selection. 

-IRONSIDE FISH & OYSTER BAR: This is a perfect spot if you are looking for some fresh seafood. Ironside is located in Little Italy and is in a renovated warehouse that gives it a cool and laidback vibe. 

-BARBUSA: Barbusa is a stylish, modern Italian restaurant in Little Italy. They are known for their delicious Italian dishes and wine. 

-CLOAK & PETAL: Cloak & Petal is an artsy, airy restaurant in Little Italy with beautiful flowers as decor, They are known for their Japanese tapas and creative cocktails. 

-ASTI RISTORANTE: Asti is an authentic Italian spot in the Gaslamp District that has wonderful pastas, pizza and wine. They also have a cute outdoor patio that is perfect for people watching. 

TOP SPOTS TO GRAB A DRINK

San Diego is one of the brewery capitals! There are breweries on every corner you look! A couple breweries and wineries that we enjoyed are listed below:

-CARRUTH CELLARS WINE GARDEN: Carruth was by far my favorite spot we grabbed a drink at! It's a cute, modern wine garden in Little Italy. They have a gorgeous outdoor patio that is perfect for grabbing a glass of wine and hanging out for a couple hours. They have great wine flights and wonderful cheese boards. 

-BALLAST POINT: Ballast Point is one of the most famous breweries in San Diego. It is located in Little Italy and has a laidback, welcoming atmosphere with an excellent outdoor patio.

 

-CORONADO BREWING COMPANY: Coronado Brewing Company is located in Coronado and has a fun, laidback and welcoming atmosphere. 

-OCEAN BEACH BREWERY: Ocean Beach Brewery is a three story brewpub with a rooftop overlooking Ocean Beach. It not only has gorgeous views but excellent beer.

-ALTITUDE SKY LOUNGE: Altitude Sky Lounge is a swanky, rooftop top on the top floor of the Marriott Hotel in the Gaslamp District. The Altitude Sky Lounge has amazing views of the city, upbeat music and classic cocktails. This is the perfect spot for a pre-dinner or an after dinner drink. 

TOP THINGS TO DO

-VISIT HOTEL DEL CORONADO: Hotel Del Coronado is a beautiful, historic hotel located on Coronado Island, which is just a 10 minute ferry ride or a 10 minute drive from downtown San Diego. This lovely hotel is the perfect spot to spend the day at the beach, eat lunch at one of their nice restaurants, or grab a beer at the Coronado Brewery. 

-KAYAK IN LA JOLLA: We did the La Jolla Sea Caves Kayak Tour when we visited San Diego and it was definitely one of the highlights of our trip! This two hour kayaking tour was amazing! The tour guides took us into a couple sea caves where we got to see sea lions and also told us all about La Jolla beach. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting San Diego. 

-HANG OUT AT THE BEACH: 

  • LA JOLLA COVE: La Jolla Cove is a beautiful, picturesque part of the beach surrounded by cliffs.  It is also surrounded by restaurants, bars and shops that are a quick walk from the beach. It was the perfect beach to spend the whole day.

  • WINDANDSEA BEACH: Windandsea Beach is another nice beach in La Jolla. If you are looking for a more chill and laidback atmosphere with less crowds, then this is the perfect beach for you. 

  • OCEAN BEACH: Ocean Beach is one of the most popular beaches in San Diego with a very upbeat and vibrant atmosphere. It is surrounded by restaurants, outdoor bars and shops. It also is filled with surfers and other water sport activities.

  • CORONADO BEACH: Coronado Beach is a beautiful, classy and clean beach located on Coronado Island. We went to the part of the beach in front of Hotel Del Coronado and it was very nice!

-BREWERY AND WINERY HOP: There are a ton of breweries and wineries in San Diego! Check out the "Top Spots to Grab a Drink," section to see some of our favorite breweries and wineries. 

-SPEND THE DAY AT SAN DIEGO ZOO: The San Diego Zoo is one of the top zoos in the world, and after visiting it I now know why! This zoo is absolutely amazing! They have over 3500 animals, tours, shows and a sky tram you can ride across the park!
